What is a compost toilet?

composting toilet is a type of dry toilet that treats human waste by a biological process called composting. This process leads to the decomposition of organic matter and turns human waste into compost-like material . Liquid human waster evaporates through a ventilation pipe.  The remainder is what will need to be removed.  

Common Concerns :

Compost toilets are definitely an alternative method of disposing human waste.  Although, different that the common toilet it offers many benefits the biggest one being helping our environment. Common concerns :

  • Are there unpleasant odors indoors with a compost  toilet? 
No. By separating the urine from the solid waste, and venting with the fan which helps to dry the solid waste and vent any odor - there will be no unpleasant odors in the room. 
  • How often does the compost toilet need to be emptied?
This all depends on how often it its being used, type of toilet and how many people are using it.   Toilets will come with specifications on when to empty it along with how often to add mulch. Typically, you should only have to empty it every 2-4 weeks.
  • How much does a compost toilet cost?

They range and you pay for what you get.  A great quality toilet will range from $1600- $2000.
